Surprise!!!

May 11th 2009-05-19

Can you guess where I am now...right now???? I am flying in a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Chennai... actually we have just a little more than an hour left to fly. You must be wondering why I never mentioned such an exciting event. Well...it’s simple...the whole thing was a big surprise...a special mother’s day gift for both our mothers. Sometime in February, we booked tickets to India...for the month of may. Initially we decided not to tell our parents, and to just shock them by arriving at their door steps one fine day..But later we decided that we should tell our fathers so that they would be able to make plans for us...the places to visit when in India etc. So, we told our fathers..and told them not to tell our mothers or anyone else for that matter. And, I am glad to say that the whole thing did remain a secret almost till the end. A few before our departure, my dad had to tell my mom...but my mom-in-law and others still have no clue.
The week before leaving San Jose, we told our parents that we were planning to go to LA over the weekend and that we would be reaching back only on Tuesday... Well...anyway..so this is what happened and here we are..a few hours away from Singara Chennai!
We have travelled through Singapore twice before, but have never stepped out of the airport. This time we had over 18 hours of transit time..and decided to put it to good use. We reached Singapore at around 1 AM, took a room at the transit hotel and caught some Zzzss till 7. We had some coffee...asked around about various ways to see the city and finally decided to do it American Ishtyle – DIY*. We took a shower and went out looking for a nice place to have breakfast. A few minutes away form out room was an Indian restaurant called Kaveri, where I had a plain dosa and my husband had an Idly Vada combo plate. After breakfast, we checked out from the hotel and went to the terminal where we would catch our next flight at night.
The whole DIY plan comprised of us taking the Singapore MRT – the train system that seems to connect almost the whole island and see the sights of the city.
