The Elusive Hummingbird

About a month ago, we bought a fuchsia plant to hang in our patio. I remember having that plant a long long time ago in my parent's garden. It is an amazingly beautiful flower...I guess a picture will do the talking better than me...

Now you know what I mean...Anyway, the colour and nectar in these flowers has attracted a hummingbird. It was after lunch one day, when I first saw this tiny little bird buzzing around the flowers.

I saw the bird the next day too, but in the evening. So, we figured that the bird came as and when it pleased. But that was not the case.

I have the habit of sitting in the patio and working. One such evening, I suddenly heard a buzzing sound. Expecting to see a bumble bee, I looked at the pot and the bird was there. We soon realized that the bird was coming every evening. So now, I wanted to photograph it. I told my parents about it and my father, who is a photography buff, suggested that I camouflage myself and sit with a tripod, awaiting the bird. The camouflage was definitely not a possibility, as people would think I was nuts...the tripod was doable though. So, the next evening I brought out our tripod (which was broken), and sat looking at the flowers. I sat for half an hour but the bird did not come. I looked away for a second, and it came..and I missed it!!
I was back the next evening, this time holding the camera in my hands. The bird, which usually came between 5 and 5.30 PM did not come...I put the camera down at around 5.40 and it came. I was so angry at myself for not being patient enough...

I finally got a shot of the elusive bird the next evening...but the bird was too fast...and my reflexes, too slow.

My mother in law noticed the bird today morning. It came again just as we had finished lunch, and now, it buzzed in and out of our patio 20 minutes back. So, we have realized that this bird is our guest for breakfast, lunch and dinner...and we still don't have a decent picture of it. Patience is a virtue right..so let's hope it pays off!!!
