Terrors of the Corporate World

This past week was a nerve-racking one, at work. My friends and I had noticed that a few of our colleagues had stopped coming; initially we thought that maybe some of them were on leave, or that they had found different jobs. Soon we realized that they had been 'sent away', and this put an added fear into our minds. Then, on Tue, we saw our manager calling some other people from the team, individually, and talking to them for 5-10 minutes each, inside a conference room. This scared us all the more.

One of my friends stayed back while a few of us went out for lunch. When we got back, she told me that I was next in line...and then she added (to my relief) that there was nothing to worry. Our manager was just giving everyone a heads up about the coming busy weeks, and telling us that we were all doing well.

So, when she called me, I wasn't as scared as I was before...at least I knew that I wasn't going in to be fired :-). She spoke really sweetly, and told me that I was doing fine and that the next few weeks (thanksgiving and later) will be super hectic and that we should gear up to work long long hours. She said that all of us who were still here were the best of the lot, and as long as we did our jobs perfectly, there was nothing to worry(which is perfectly fair to ask of course).

Well, I guess, this is how the corporate world works...
