Serial Culture!!

I am sure you all are familiar with this scene and at least one person in your family is definitely affected by this addiction...if you may call it so! My mother-in-law is an avid watcher of Tamil soap operas (I am not sure if avid is a strong enough word)...we have even noticed her weeping silently when tragedies occur in the  melodramatic stories.
She is not the only one though..I remember a Malayalam serial called 'Sthree' that used to air around 12-13 years ago. We had relatives who wouldn't budge from their houses until the serial was over and if they happened to be out earlier in the evening, they would rush back by 7 PM so as not to miss even a scene. Such an addiction can be considered harmless when compared to the extreme fanatics who forget everything else around them and get completely involved in the story/stories.
For instance, there is a comedy series called 'Akkarakazhchagal' showcasing a Malayali family, settled in the US. In one of the episodes, the father decides to install a dish antenna so that his family can watch Malayalam channels and learn more about Kerala and Indian culture. In the evening, he gathers his kids and switches on the TV with great expectations...but soon starts regretting his decision.
His wife gets hooked on all the serials and one fine day even forgets to cook dinner. As a final straw, his daughter asks him "Papa, do you have another wife?" The man gets the shock of his life and replies "I am having enough trouble with one, why do you want me to have another?" She replies, " Heroes in every serial have two wives and they are always fighting with each other...is this Malayali culture?" What would you say to that??!!
